Sachin Samson

Sachin Samson is a visual artist working primarily with large-scale murals and figurative painting. His practice is grounded in sustained observational drawing, developed through an ongoing engagement with sketchbooks that function less as preparatory tools and more as living records of movement, encounter, and place.

Growing up in Kerala, Samson was shaped by Kochi's layered geography — its ports, backwaters, inherited architectures, and long history of migration and exchange. These environments form the quiet backbone of his work, where colonial histories, cultural crossings, and everyday gestures coexist without hierarchy. Rather than depicting history directly, his paintings translate these influences into symbolic forms and atmospheric compositions, allowing past and present to sit side by side.

His working process combines acrylic painting and charcoal drawing, preserving the immediacy of the drawn line within larger pictorial structures. Gold leaf appears selectively, lending moments of emphasis and visual weight without overt ornamentation. Figuration, portraiture, and narrative are brought together through this layered approach, resulting in works that remain intimate even at architectural scale.
