Vinod Daroz

Vinod Daroz studied sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, completing his MFA in ceramic sculpture in 1999. His practice is centred on high-temperature ceramics and has been presented through numerous solo exhibitions and international group shows.

Daroz's work is shaped by an early familiarity with temple towns in southern India, where architecture is encountered through daily movement rather than spectacle. This spatial understanding informs his use of serial forms, repetition, and restrained compositional rhythms.

Coming from a family of traditional jewellers, Daroz brings a disciplined attention to surface and finish into his ceramic work. Gold appears sparingly as accent rather than ornament, functioning as a point of emphasis within otherwise restrained material fields.

Material experimentation is central to his practice. Daroz has developed a distinctive range of glazes through prolonged engagement with pigment and firing, with his blues becoming widely recognisable. He also works with clays sourced from different regions, each selected for its specific handling qualities and tonal character.

Rather than illustrating tradition, Daroz's ceramics reorganise architectural and material logic at a smaller scale. Meaning emerges through accumulation, pacing, and attention, allowing structure, material, and memory to coexist within contemporary practice.
