Fractured Memories, Shattered Silences

Artists: Ayogu Kingsley, Reggie Khumalo, Ibrahim Bamidele, Sébastien Boko

Presented at: 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, New York, 2025

Curatorial concept

This exhibition interrogated the inheritance of trauma and memory within African and diasporic contexts. Referencing Marianne Hirsch’s theory of Postmemory, the exhibition offered a powerful meditation on how personal and collective histories are encoded in contemporary visual languages. Each artist approached memory through a distinctive symbolic and emotional vocabulary.
